About dementia

Dementia is an umbrella term. It describes many different symptoms which are caused by diseases and injuries that affect the brain.

Symptoms of dementia include a deterioration in memory, thinking, orientation, comprehension, learning capacity, language, and judgement. This is commonly accompanied by a change in emotional control, social behaviour, or motivation.

Dementia is progressive which means that symptoms will get worse over time. There are many different types of dementia, and early diagnosis can be important.
